Further Details:
On the 1st Saturday of May every year it is free comic book day, where stores give away comics to encourage reading and get people to come and meet local artists and make new friends that have the same interests.

Last year they had many cosplayers (amateur and professional), gave away comics, balloons, did pictures and had local social media coverage.
