X-Wing Pilot parts info - Apok - 18-12-2013

This thread is a Work In Progress. More details are to be added. Anyone with information to add please let me know and I will add it into the thread.

Hello all.

Do you want to join the ranks of Fly boys and Fly girls?
Did you want to take down Imperial TIE fighters by the dozen?

Then this thread will help you achieve that dream.

As you know the Squadron has taken a massive hit to it's pilots ranks. The Empire has culled us heavily and now we need to rebuild.

What you will need.

Orange Coveralls.

Ebay is probably the best way to buy these. The best thing to do is get together with another pilot and buy three suits for your two flight suits. One will be used for all the alterations and extra pockets for the other two.

You are looking for the Bisley Orange coveralls.

There a few mods to be done. I would contact Mammasith in regards to getting that done.

You can also go to Costume Base and get a flight suit from them.

http://www.thecostumebase.com/rebels-forces/

You will still need to do some minor mods for them.

I would recommend using Mammsith as she is local and if things need adjusting you will get great service.

Flak Vest

Mammsith has been making some great flak vests that are extremely well made. These do not come with the buckles though. You will have to get those.

Costume base is another option (http://www.thecostumebase.com/rebels-forces/), but the vest will need buckles and some mods to get them approvable.

I will try and get a buckles link here soon. (link to come)

I would recommend using Mammsith as she is local and if things need adjusting you will get great service.

Boots

German Jack boots are what you need here folks. Military Harbor is one of the ebay stores you can use.

http://stores.ebay.com.au/Military-Harbor

The best thing to do is go around and research. Then do an interest thread and get a few people on board. This will make shipping cheaper for you all.

The good thing about these boots are they can be used for many other costumes in the RL and the 501st.

Gloves

If you are in the 501st and have TIE gloves then you are set.

This is one option

I will ask the BCO what his contacts are as well.

Helmet

Going to honest, and the BCO will back me on this, If you want to be a pilot you need a helmet and you must wear that helmet when trooping.

A Rubies Helmet is approvable, but as the current Pilots will tell you they look fairly poor and are all the same design.

I am currently working on a one piece helmet. I am doing some major work with it this weekend. Darth Real Life got in the road sorry folks. Price TBA.

DW Designs also do a great kit. $150.

I will also put up some other sellers when I find them.

Ejection belt, Belt and Leg Flare holders

Ejection belt and Belt are just silver seat belt material. I have a roll of 50m price $3 per metre.

Leg Flare holders are black or khaki material. You can get them from Ebay. Mammsith will also be looking to start making these as well.

Jediprincess has the pattern for all of these.

Other Components

These are from Mark Dickson from Hoth base https://www.facebook.com/mark.dickson.568?fref=ts . They look great and are pretty cheap. Mark is a great guy and comes to DW events with his family most years. Below is a list of what he makes:

Chest box complete is $65
Arm tools $25
Leg flares $50
Belt flares $15
Belt buckle $15

Commpads $15 + $3 if you want a magnet to attach them to your jumpsuit (recommended). These are from April Storm, also from Hoth Base https://www.facebook.com/ravstais?fref=ts .

Prices do not include postage.

You could probably get these parts from overseas, but I like buying local and helping prop makers in Australia as much as I can.

This is just to get those of you thinking of doing a pilot in the know of what you will need. The best thing to do is get a group of you together and do a run. You may get a cheaper price for bulk and you will save on postage.

That's it for the moment.

@stormraven - I'll get the Xwing out of the road first. Then we will sort the other pilots.

RE: X-Wing Pilot parts info - Rebelrach - 18-12-2013

Imagine the parade at Dreamworld with 10 Xwing pilots all walking along...too cool for school. Love it. And LOVE the idea of custom painting our own helmets....

Better start the 'my but is going to look really big in this orange jumpsuit' diet LOL

Great stuff Apok! I support the sourcing of components from Aussie suppliers too. Great idea.
